Relaxation massage is a gentle and rejuvenating Swedish massage style that uses smooth, light, gliding strokes. The Massage Therapist uses a light pressure and a slow pace is used to promote relaxation. The aim of a relaxation massage is to feel relaxed, rejuvenated and reduce physical and mental stress. Often times, patients will fall asleep during a relaxation massage. A relaxation massage does not release deep muscular tension – click here to learn more about therapeutic massage if you are looking for a deep tissue style of massage.
A relaxation massage can activate specialized nerve endings in the skin that cause the brain to release endorphins. Endorphins are our body’s natural painkillers and feel good chemicals. The release of endorphins can promote relaxation.
A relaxation massage can decrease blood pressure, slow down the heart rate and increase digestive activity. This is activation of the body’s rest and digest system. The gentle and light strokes also increase lymphatic drainage, which helps the body get rid of toxic waste products.
At CCH, our Registered Massage Therapist may use aromatherapy with essential oils during the relaxation massage to promote optimal relaxation.
